Confinement Food and Recipes to Improve Your Lactation
Breastfeeding is never an easy job for mothers.
But, we don’t want you to feel pressure about it. So, here are some tips to improve your lactation process with just simply adding these foods in your confinement food recipes!
1. Green Papaya
Papayas are known to have a lactogenic effect which will assist mothers to increase their milk supply after consumed. Green papayas are even more lactogenic, it will be able to increase the production of oxytocin, which is the hormone regulates the milk production of mothers who are nursing.
Recommend dishes: Papaya Salad, Papaya Fish Soup
Garlic is believed to be galactagogue and been encouraged to consume by mothers who are looking to breastfeeding. It had been used as a herbal treatment to increase the milk supply of mothers in lactation. The baby had been observed to stay at the breast longer and lead to an increase in the milk supply of mothers.
Recommend to use: simply add garlic in your meals as increase favour.
Carrots are not so well-known as improving lactation, but the galactagogue in carrots can promote milk production for mothers. Vitamin A in carrots is also essential nutrition for lactation and boosts the quality of your milk.

Salmon well-know as loaded with DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), which essential to the development of your baby’s nervous system. Having salmon while you are breastfeeding will increase the level of DHA in the milk supply and improve the behaviour, attention and learning of baby. DHA in salmon also helps with mother’s mood after deliver and prevent postnatal depression. Salmon also contains EFA (Essential Fatty acids), sometimes called Vitamin F. EFAs help to produce hormones and ensure normal growth and development to accomplish the development of the baby and restore mothers from pregnancy.

6. Sweet Potato
Sweet potato is rich in beta carotene and fibre. Beta carotene is known to boost the milk supply. Magnesium in sweet potato also helps in breast muscle relax for mothers and assist lactation.
Recommend dishes: simply boil the whole sweet potato, sweet potato pudding or sweet potato soup.

1. Stay away from alcohol and nicotine
If you already skip your alcohol and nicotine in pregnancy, keep this habit! If you are planning to nurse your baby, nicotine and alcohol will restrict your breast milk supply and the harmful substances in alcohol drinks and nicotine might pass into your little one’s body through breast milk and affect baby development and growth.
2. Postnatal Massage
Postnatal Massage will usually include breast massage which will help open breast engorgement, loosening breast hardenest and allow east flow when mothers are nursing. Mothers can also get help from confinement nanny or families members for breast massage. The breast massage can also lessen the risk of mastitis.
