Commonly Asked Questions
-
Why do I need a special confinement food menu?
Excessive blood loss and a woman’s “qi” may be drained during childbirth, leaving yourself vulnerable to illness and risk of malnutrition. Aside from being easily susceptible to common ailments like backaches, the weak condition of the body could also pose potential long-term health problems. Taking care of your newborn while recovering from childbirth could also make you feel tired and easily.
Hence, it is important to have a nutritious diet during confinement with dishes specially formulated to improve your postpartum recovery and keep you energised. If you are breastfeeding, it also helps in improving milk supply.
-
How should I eat during confinement?
Eat a well-balanced confinement diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals. A general guide is to fill half of your plate with vegetables, a quarter with whole grains, and a quarter with meat or other protein.
In terms of nutrients, it’s best for your confinement food menu to include the following to promote wound recovery: higher protein, vitamin C, vitamin A, Iron and Zinc. On the other hand, to support the nutritional content of your breast milk, you need vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, Choline, vitamin D, Omega 3-DHA, and Iodine.
For instance, some of the best confinement food to have are lean meat, chicken, fish tofu, leafy greens, pumpkin, a variety of colourful vegetables, pork innards, and legumes.
Furthermore, having Chinese confinement soups and herbal soup for confinement is also traditionally believed to help replenish “qi” to boost recovery and provide adequate hydration to support milk supply.
-
Do you serve vegetarian confinement meals?
Unfortunately, we do not have vegetarian options available at the moment.
-
Can I opt for a fusion-food-only or traditional-food-only menu?
Our fusion and Chinese confinement food menu consists mainly of traditional Chinese dishes, with some fusion meals served occasionally to keep your confinement diet interesting.
Hence, while we are able to serve a traditional-food-only menu, we are sorry to inform you that fusion-only menu is not available.
Our confinement meal menu is planned by our dietitian and chef to include traditional and fusion meals that work together to offer you well-balanced nutrients.
Not to mention our traditional meals also contain Chinese herbs and nutritious ingredients like pork and leafy greens to help you with wound recovery and replenish blood.
-
How can I view my confinement food menu before ordering?
You can view your detailed TianWei confinement menu by entering your estimated delivery date (EDD) above and click “View Menu”. You will then be able to view every dish in your daily lunch and dinner sets. Each day of the Tian Wei Confinement Menu has the date stated above for your easy reference.
-
Can I customise my confinement menu?
Of course! We can leave out any ingredients that you prefer not to have in your confinement meal menu. That said, we highly recommend you to have all the ingredients we serve, as our menu is planned with our dietitian to be well-balanced and help you in recovery and breastfeeding.
For example, the list of confinement food we use includes offal and fish, which help you get enough iron, vitamin A and omega 3 to speed up your wound healing, which other types of protein (a.k.a. meat) may not provide as much, so avoiding certain ingredients may reduce your intake of these essential nutrients.
